    Activating EP Budgeting

    Online Activation

Please Note: An Internet connection is required to activate and register your product using this method.

EP Budgeting offers easy mobility between computers. The number of authorized activations is determined at the time of purchase. (Two activations are standard for each purchase, unless otherwise specified.) Once all purchased license activations are in use, you will need to Deactivate the license from one machine to activate the license on another. EP Budgeting's Product Activation System will warn you when all licenses are in use.

EP Budgeting automatically installs in "Trial Version" mode. When running the application as a Trial Version, you have the ability to try the fully functional product for 15 uses before it requires license activation. After 15 uses, the product will revert to Viewer mode. Viewer mode prohibits you from saving, printing, or exporting to Classic Movie Magic Budgeting 5.7. Activating the license will resume full functionality of the product.

Please Note: The functionality of the product does not alter the integrity of your data files.
    1. Launch EP Budgeting from either the final Installer Window or from the location where you selected your icon to be created in the Create Shortcut step from installation.

    2. If you have not activated EP Budgeting, the Product Activation screen will be displayed. From this screen you can select:
    a. Trial Version. Enables you to try the product for 15 uses before purchasing and/or without an Activation Key. Clicking on "Trial" will bring you directly into the application. If you have exceeded the 15-use grace period, a warning message will display notifying you that you will no longer be able to save, print, or create exports to Classic Movie Magic Budgeting 5.7.

    b. Purchase. Connects directly to EP's Online Store to allow you to purchase the program.

    c. Register. Clicking on Register launches your browser and connects you to EP's Registration site. Registration must be completed before you can fully activate the product.

    d. Activate. After registering and activating your product, click on the Activate button. Your system will connect to EP's server automatically to validate your license and activate your product.
Please Note: The Product Activation screen will only be displayed if the product has not been activated.

    1. I installed and launched the application, and the screen is prompting me to select Trial Version, Purchase, or Activate. What do I do?

Entertainment Partners' licensing method allows you to run the program in Trial Version for 15 uses. EP understands the need to allow other users who have not yet purchased EP Budgeting to access the application to complete the budgeting process; therefore, we offer Trial Version and the Viewer mode.

To try the product before purchasing, click on Trial Version. You will have full functionality of EP Budgeting for 15 uses. When the 15-use period has been reached, the application will revert to Viewer mode and you will be unable to print, save, or create exports to Classic Movie Magic Budgeting 5.7.

Clicking on Purchase will bring you to the Entertainment Partners Online Store, where you will be guided through the purchasing process. Once purchased, click on Register Product. Once Registration is completed, simply click on Activate. Once your product is fully activated, it will launch immediately.

    2. I need to move my software to a different computer. Can I do that?

Absolutely! In EP Budgeting, go to Help, select License, and then select Deactivate. Clicking on OK will deactivate your system, reverting it to Viewer mode. You will be provided with a Deactivation Key. Click on Return Activation Key to connect to EP's Product Activation System and return the activation. Please note, until the activation is returned to EP's Product Activation System, it will NOT be available for use on a different computer.

    3. I am trying to license my software and keep getting an error that I am not connected to the Internet, but I know I am. What's going on?

You are probably connecting with a local area network (LAN) from work that has a complex firewall installed. These firewalls can make communications difficult at times. Check with your local system administrator to verify if a firewall may be prohibiting your ability to connect. If the problem persists, you can simply contact us by telephone to license and register your product at 800.624.3472 (U.S.) or 818. 955.6331 (International), Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm (Pacific).

    4. How do I set up the Topsheet Header?

Go to File > Print Setup. Click on the Edit Header/Footer button atop the Print Setup window and choose Topsheet Only. Next, enter the text for the Center, Right, and Left Margins (limit of 11 lines, including spaces). Select additional text to include, such as Date, Time, Budget #, etc., by clicking on the Insert Text button and choosing from the drop-down menu.

    5. Can I add more columns for calculating Currencies or identifying Sets?

Adding more columns for indentifying Currencies, Subgroups, Locations, and Sets is a great new timesaver. Go to File > Setup to set up any one of these attributes. Then click on one of the toggle buttons to view/apply data to a particular column.  You can hide the column again by clicking on the toggle button.

    6. How do I use the 4th Multiplier?

The 4th Multiplier is an additional column used for greater depth of calculations. For example:  4 wks x 70 pay hrs x 30 per hr x 4 (grips).  By right-clicking on the gray bar at the top of your Detail Account, you can choose to include a 4th Multiplier.

    7. How do I link cells from the 4th Level to a Detail Account?

You can link the sum of any cell in the 4th Level worksheet to one or more cells in any Detail Account. Once you’ve created your 4th Level worksheet, go to the Account and indentify the link by entering = in the destination cell. Click back to the 4th Level in the cell you want to link to and press Enter. Click on the Detail Account tab at the bottom of the screen. Notice the sum of the 4th Level cell is now contained in that Detail field. Change the 4th Level worksheet, and the Detail Account will be dynamically updated.

    8. How do I view two or more budgets on my desktop?

First, open the budgets you want to view simultaneously. Next, arrange the budget panes on your screen so you can easily view them. To do so, go to Window > Arrange. Select Arrange Budgets from the Desktop options at the top of the screen. Then select Horizontal from the Action options at the bottom. You can now compare, make changes, or copy/past among budgets.

    9. When copying and pasting between two or more budgets, do my Fringes and Globals copy/past automatically?

Only those Fringes, Globals, Subgroups, etc., associated with that account(s) will be copied into the destination budget.  NOTE: In the event you are pasting into a budget that contains Globals of the same name, the calculation value of the destination budget’s Globals will prevail.

    10. How do I use Find and Replace?

Use the Find/Replace feature to make changes across the entire budget quickly and easily. Go to Edit > Replace. Enter the text/value you want to substitute in the Find What filed and enter the new text/value in the Replace With field. Click OK to proceed. Select Replace All if you want to replace the text/value across the entire budget.

    11. How do I use the Notes feature?

You can apply a Note to any level of the budget and later print a report containing all of your Notes. Go to Data > Note and the Note box will appear. Use this feature as a reminder to research or add certain cost items to your budget, or use it as a means for keeping an audit trail of changes made among budget versions. You can print your Notes by selecting the Include in Print Report option.

    12. What are the dotted lines I see surrounding cells I’ve copied?

Think of the dotted lines as your “clipboard” where copied items are stored. To clear your clipboard, simply click on the line(s) within your copy range and press the Esc key. Once you move to another cell, all the dotted lines will disappear; thus, clearing your clipboard.

Best Practice Tip: Once you select new material to copy/paste, clear any old copy/paste assignments by clearing your clipboard. This will keep your clipboard clear of any clutter.

    13. How do I lock my budget so I can view any changes made during the session?

Go to the Topsheet or Accounts level, right-click on the gray Account description bar and select Update Original Column Totals. Then right-click again and select Show Original & Variance Column. Next go to Setup > Budget Preferences and check the Lock Original Totals for Comparison box. Any changes made from that point on will appear in your Variance column.

    14. Do you have a fully populated sample budget I can refer to?

A fully populated sample budget is available on the EP Budgeting DVD Tutorial. You can order the DVD in our webstore.
