May 12, 2010Winning Employee Ownership Month Poster
Entertainment Partners Honored for Excellence by ESOP Association
Entertainment Partners (EP) has been selected by The ESOP Association as its 2010 Employee Ownership Month Poster Contest Winner. The winning poster design was unveiled at the Association’s 33rd Annual Conference in Washington, DC, in front of 250 guests. The ESOP Association is the national trade association for companies with employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and the leading voice in America for employee ownership.

The poster was selected because of the idea it expressed: “My Company Your Company Our Company.” It will be used by the Association to promote employee ownership month, which takes place every October and is a celebration of the incredible spirit of employee ownership.

The company's efforts were also recognized by The ESOP Association as the first prize winner of the 2010 Total Communications Excellence, 501-1000 Employees Annual Award for Communications Excellence (AACE). The AACE Awards are sponsored each year by the Association to recognize the outstanding communications and educational programs of its members.

"What exciting recognition for our company," noted Ron Cogan, VP, Marketing and Communications at EP. "The support of our Executive Management and the talents of our ESOP Communications team created a winning formula for success."

AACE Award winners are chosen by a panel of five judges made up of both management and non-management employee owners, each of whom has demonstrated active experience and interest in the field of ESOPs and employee ownership.

The core cause of The ESOP Association is the belief that employee ownership will improve American competitiveness, increase productivity through greater employee participation, and strengthen our free enterprise economy.

Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act Update

As we communicated previously, on Thursday, March 18, 2010, President Obama signed the above-noted HIRE Act into law. Salient provisions of the Act include the following:

  • Provides relief to employers as an incentive to hire workers.
  • Affects employees hired on or after February 3, 2010, and before January 1, 2011.
  • Eliminates the employer's share of FICA (i.e., 6.2% of subject wages up to the annual cap of $106,800 for 2010) for all wages paid to qualified workers from February 3 through December 31, 2010.
  • To obtain this relief, the employer must obtain a certified affidavit (Form W11) from the employee stating that he/she was employed for no more than 40 hours during the 60-day period ending on the date the new employment began, across all employers worked for.
  • The credit will be available retroactively, as long as the above-noted W11 is received. However, due to the language in the law it will only be retroactive to March 18, 2010, the date the President signed the bill.
W11 forms may be obtained from your EP Paymaster. We advise that you have all eligible employees complete the form, which then should be submitted to your Paymaster. All forms related to payments processed before our system change will be sent to our Adjustment group, who will process any credits due. In the meantime we are enhancing our systems to accommodate and automate the HIRE Act changes, and expect these changes to be in full effect by the close of the 2nd quarter.

We look forward to assisting you in maximizing your HIRE credit.  Please direct any additional questions to Becky Harshberger, Director of Taxation, at 818.955.6016.
